For all you would-be sellers of Book Houses: On the 6 volume black and green Book House, look at the title page, lower corner. If there is nothing there, you have a 1st or 2nd printing/edition. Usually, you will see a letter (C-H) or a number. LIST IT. It is the printing/edition number. Also picture the spine. Also either quote all the dates on the verso or just skip the dates. The words "first edition" applied to any Book House that looks old are meaningless. The Bookhouse Company used "printing" and "edition" interchangeably.

I am trying to complete some 6 vol. black sets and it has been a terribly long, involved process simply because people never list the printing/edition number. You might want to purchase Dorothy Loring Taylor's reference book.

Thanks. Suzanne

I may have time to look in at the library during my visit to Charleston between 19th and 26th September. You may have seen that I'm the speaker at the Monday Night Blues Poetry Cafe on the 19th at 8pm at 160 East Bay Street. I'll be reciting some of my poems from the collection: FREEDOM RECLAIMED. If you or anyone you know might like to come along, please do so. Also I could invite via facebook. Glad you had a look at my website.

>It's funny; I'm just the opposite! I dislike almost everything about Facebook. John Scalzi explains why waaay better than I can here: http://whatever.scalzi.com/2011/01/19/and-now-for-no-particular-reason-a-rant-about-facebook/.Twitter, on the other hand, is simple. The privacy level of my tweets are obvious. It's easier to use on my smartphone than FB. The strangers following me don't actually have time to *read* my tweets, so they don't worry me. (They're just there because people stupidly think autofollowing people is a smart idea.) The #chstrfc hashtag alone makes Twitter awesome, but the main draw for me is that you can chat with a bunch of people real time at a virtual event (like #NCIS, #Sherlock, #ALA10 or #barcampchs) without having to have them in your feeds for the rest of time. Friending someone on FB feels waaay more permanent and invasive to me.Tweeting on a specific topic that isn't your life is a great idea! You might like Twitter better if you use it that way. Let us know how it goes!

>My boys, ages 9 and 4, and I started a used book company for them to earn some money and appreciate books. Unfortunately,it has been a year and while we have enjoyed the books we have purchased,we really haven't listed anything for sale. Along the way though, we salvaged vol 2,3,4 1920 and Vol 5,6 1921 from Goodwill. They are in pretty good shape considering. Bindings slightly torn on vol 2&4. The other bindings show wear. Vol 2 p 396 is bent and slightly torn. There are some smudge marks and a few slightly dog eared corners throughout the set but not that many. Vol 6 p63/64 is badly torn but still readable. FYI, my kids had nothing to do with the wear and tear. ; ) We keep them on the top of the bookshelf and read them as a treat. Of course, they love the illustrations. The covers which are green are so inviting with the color pictures. Goodwill knew the value and I paid $50 each. By far our biggest investment. If you are interested in purchasing, I can be contacted at info@booknavy.com.
