Separated at Birth: Read Between the Lines

I am extremely interested in artistic/literary/cinematic/musical antecedents. For example, I have noticed that the grapic novel character, Emily the Strange, bears a strong resemblance to Rosamond from Nate the Great by Marjorie Sharmat. Both are odd, moody, and surrounded by four black cats.

I’ve thought of that often myself. I stumbled across your blog while trying to find if there has ever been any connection made between them. Is Emily a deliberate spin-off of Rosamund? Has a ruckus ever been raised by Nate the Greats creator for character rip off? But I can’t seem to find anything like that online, just others who have mentioned how similar they are.
